The second assignment that was given to the 2016 Managing Organizational Issues II class was the "Get Your Hands Dirty" Assignment. The purpose of this assignment was to provide participants with personal context for engaging with the community that surrounds them. We were to metaphorically, get our hands dirty by getting involved with the community in one way or another.
For this assignment, my tutorial leader, Scott, helped me find a placement at Feed Nova Scotia. I volunteered for four hours with my friend, Kara Smyth, who is also in my class. Below you will be able to read my assignment which will go more in depth on what I did as a volunteer at Feed Nova Scotia.
The reason why I feel this assignment is important is because it lets you help out in your very own community. It gives you the opportunity to give back to the community in which you live in. With this assignment I was not only able to help others, but I was also able to gain more knowledge on Feed Nova Scotia and what they do. By learning their objective and seeing first hand how much hard work they put in, so that the less fortunate have a chance at getting more food for their family and themselves, taught me the importance of being thankful for what you have. During my four hours at Feed Nova scotia, I experienced how much food goes to waste and I was able to take away with me the proper knowledge needed for donating food so that it does not go to waste.
This assignment impacted me in a great way because it taught me to be caring, thankful, and much more.
